1. That we would draw closer to God.
Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. ~ James 4:8, NIV
2. That our marriage would be a testimony of our faith.
Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. ~ 1 Timothy 4:12, NIV
3. That we would fulfill the responsibilities given to each of us as husband and wife.
From everyone who has been given much, much will be demanded; and from the one who has been entrusted with much, much more will be asked. ~ Luke 12:48b, NIV
4. That we would be content with little or with much.
For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. ~ 1 Timothy 6:7-8, NIV
5. That we will run to God in times of trouble.
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” ~ Psalm 91:1&2, NIV
6. For good health.
Gracious words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones. ~ Proverbs 16:24, NIV
7. That we would stand strong against the pull of this world and the spiritual warfare that threatens our faith and our marriage.
Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. ~ Ephesians 6:10-12, NIV
8. That we would encourage each other with our words.
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. ~ Ephesians 4:29, NIV
9. That we would be patient with each other.
As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. ~ Ephesians 4:1-3, NIV
10. That God would put a hedge of protection around our marriage.
Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” ~ Psalm 91:1-2, NIV
You are loved by an almighty God,
Darlene Schacht
This is such a great list of scriptures to apply to our daily lives in our marriage. I believe every couple should have a print of these placed on their fridge as a daily reminder. I think it would make a big difference in how they treat each other as they go about their daily lives.
Dear Darlene,
Could you please make this into a printable poster? I would love to print this and hang it in my home as a daily reminder. I tries and it came up as 8 pages?
Thanks,
Angel Whitt
I’ll be making prayer cards in September along with a printable list. There will be 31 in total. Hope you can wait for that one!
Thank you dear for this list. I love finding new scripture to pray other for our marriage and family. 🙂
Thank you so much dear sis for sharing this wonderful prayer.God bless you!!
Love this 🙂 is there a printable of it?? I would LOVE to put it up somewhere in my house to see it throughout the day 🙂
Since I’ve had a second request, I’ll make one! 🙂
Ohhh! On second thought. I just tried putting one together and there was so much text to it that it didn’t work. We’re best to wait for the fall when I make the prayer cards. Sorry!
Thank you so much! 🙂
No offense, but as a Christian husband of over 23 years, I’m a bit surprised and disappointed that you left out scriptures actually about marriage.
For #1, why not Eph 5:31-32, which advises us to think of Christ and the Church (i.e. us) in the most intimate of marital terms?
For #2 (which had nothing at all to do with marriage) why not 1st Cor 7:16?
For #3, you certainly thought of 1 Cor 7:2-5…
The other glaring omission in an age of 50% divorce even among Christians was anything regarding the one thing exclusively reserved to the institute of marriage. These days we all need to be praying over that aspect continually. The passage from 1 Cor 7:2-5, 1 Pet 3:7, Prov 5:18-19, SoS 2:17-18 & SoS 4:6.
I appreciate your encouragement to pray for our marriages — it is certainly needed.
Respectfully submitted,
Bill,
We would love to see you write your own article where you can boast of perfection. No offense, but I would, however, suggest you check your facts before hand. The divorce rate among (true) Christians is NOT 50% as stated, but rather much less. Here is a great article with links to actual statistics to help you begin your research: http://www.christianitytoday.com/edstetzer/2014/february/marriage-divorce-and-body-of-christ-what-do-stats-say-and-c.html
In my humble opinion, this was a very helpful and God-given article. We will all keep your wife in our prayers.
Blessings,
Maria
I don’t think she was positioning this as THE scripture list, but rather as A scripture list. It is not intended to be exhaustive. The exhaustive list would be the Bible itself. This is what God laid on her heart for this particular post. Additionally, I believe you are not the target audience, so it would make sense that the focus would be different from what you may prioritize. Perhaps you could create a similar post for husbands? I think that the protection of the “one thing exclusively reserved to the institute of marriage” would be covered under #2, #3 and #7 at the very least. I think that your mention of it highlights the difference in the prioritization of it by men and women. When Christ is the center of your marriage, and you are both following Him, that tends to fall into its proper place.
Darlene, these are perfect verses for a gift I am giving to my daughter, Beth Joy. She will soon be wed and I’m going to include them and let her know you have other posts she’ll be blessed by!
Thanks for sharing!

Thank you @Mrs. Joseph. I’m glad you can use them.
I found this to be very interesting , I loved reading the scriptures myself, my struggle is not with Gods word it is how to apply it to a broken marriage .
To be honest, I don’t really see a single passage about marriage in here.
Michael, I think that any and all scripture should be applied to marriage.
It’s for this reason I included a line of prayer like,
“That our marriage would be a testimony of our faith.” So we would be reminded to apply this to our marriage.
The word “marriage” might not be in the scripture, but the message should be applied in the way that we live.
I did a Bible study on marriage for my son years back
The bible verse that most struck me as a blessing and a warning was
Hebrews 13:4
Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled:but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.
Yes! Thank you for sharing that!
Thank you for the wonderful scriptures any words of encouragment can help a marriage .God bless you
Please email me the 10 scriptures for marriages. I am desperate and have 2 autistic kids. Please.
There’s an email button at the bottom of the post. Or you can copy and past this to your computer. That should work.
Looking for scriptures to add to my prayers on my marraige. this has definately gone a long way. thanks so so much and remain blessed.
Praying over our marriages is such a simple thing, but I think many of us forget the importance of it. Thank you for the reminder, Darlene.
While these are all wonderful, I think #5 and #8 are my favorites. Thank you for this, Darlene. Pinning!
You’re welcome. I like those too!
Hi I love this. Where do I find the prayer cards you talked about putting this on?
Thank you.
Here is a link to marriage prayer cards. Also if you type prayer cards in the search box, you’ll find I have other themes:

Thank you. I have just found your site and am in awe and loving it.
I love your articles so much! I’m the wife of a wonderful minister of the Gospel and we thrive on living a pleasing life unto Jesus. I’m a writer as well and would love to hear how you we’re able to become a best selling author. I’m a homeschool mom and I run a website as well. I would love to have some pointers. God bless you all!
