I got to thinking today about a friend I had back in the 90s. We were both stay-at-home moms who loved crafting, housekeeping, and worshipping God. What’s interesting about that relationship was how much we mirrored each other. She liked wreath making, I liked wreath making. She liked home decorating, I liked home decorating. I liked thrift shopping, she liked thrift shopping… It’s often like that with friends, in fact there’s a term for it known as social contagion where instead of spreading disease in a crowd we’re spreading ideas and mindsets.

Another word for social contagion is imitation. The Bible talks about this when it says,

Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ephesians 5:11, ESV)

When we love God we spend time in His presence. We begin to love the things that He loves, and begin to think the way that He thinks. When we truly love God we desire to be like Him in every way that we can.
