Finding your purpose in God

Finding Your Purpose in God – Some days I don’t measure up. Sometimes I feel like I’m merely a fraction as good as the women around me. I’m not a great cook, but I try. One Thanksgiving the turkey was way undercooked, the next year it was burned. I have trouble remembering facts, so geography and history were never a strong suit for me. I struggle with weight (actually it’s more like I struggle with a love for all the wrong food), and I never stop talking.

I’ve come to learn that there’s no two women alike, but more importantly I’ve learned that I’m not defined by my talents, my size or my shape.

As we seek to find our purpose in God perhaps the best place to start is in the meaning of the word “purpose” itself. Dictionary.com defines it this way: the reason for which something exists or is done, made, used, etc.

The Bible points to finding our purpose in God in Revelation 4:11, where the 24 elders casting their crowns before him cry out, “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.”

And so we see that our purpose in God isn’t found on a sparkling countertop, or beneath the cushion of a well-vacuumed couch–it’s defined in those moments when we give of ourselves for the glory of God. And that looks different for everyone.

For one it might be sitting next to a friend in a hospital room, another may be tucked away in her war room with God, and for another yet it could be as simple as washing the floors in your home for the ones that you love.

Whatever you do, do it with all of your might. Do all for the glory of God.

Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. (Revelation 4:11, KJV)
