The word pride could well be described in three words: me, myself, and I. It’s an attitude of elevation that puts us above others. It’s thinking more of ourselves than we should.
On the flip side of pride is humility. C.S. Lewis summed it up well when he wrote, “Humility is not thinking less of yourself, but thinking of yourself less.”
Looking to the Bible, we see Jesus who was equal with God and yet He was willing to take on the form of man. Even lower than that—the form of a servant. As believers we’re called to imitate Him—to trade in our self-centered lives for a Christ-centered one.
God doesn’t give us direction just to play with our minds. He guides us with wisdom, compassion and love. He knows that pride leads to destruction, while humility paves a road toward peace.
So, if I could give you one piece of advice today, it would be this: value humility. Hold it as dearly as you would a fine gem. Choose well. Choose love. Choose Christ.
