Daily Devotion – Keeping in Step With the Savior

Turning to Matthew chapter 11, I read, “Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matt 11:30, KJV).

With those words, I’m reminded of the early years when Dad taught me how to dance. Reaching down, he held my little hands, and with my toes on top of his, we kept in step. I couldn’t have been any older than 2 or 3 at the time, and yet I somehow I remember the wonderful and easy feeling of following his lead.

Just like that, Jesus is asking us to walk in step with Him. He uses the analogy of a yoke–a piece of wood fastened to the neck of a pair of oxen. When one turns, the other one turns. When one stops, the other stops too.

As we trust in our partner and follow His lead we watch, and we listen, and learn.

Tilling the Soil

I encourage you to learn from Christ Himself this week. If you haven’t done so in a while, read one of the four gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John) to reacquaint yourself with the life of Christ. Mark has only 16 chapters which means you could easily read that one in a day.

Planting Hope

Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:30, KJV).
