Today’s Scattered Seeds

I love Sage, and if you drove past my last house, you would have seen just how much. Over the years I’ve been blessed with a healthy crop. Every fall they’d drop their seeds, and every spring I’d have several new plants to give to my family and friends.

By mid-July, the purple plants are gorgeous–waist-high, in full bloom. I absolutely loved my little garden and was sorry to see it taper off in the Fall.

I learned something about plants over the years–pruning adds life and promotes growth. And so, with pruners in hand, I made it a habit each Summer to dead-head my Sage by cutting them back.

There’s a parallel here as we see the benefits that pruning can add to one’s life. We see how cutting back promotes spiritual growth. We see a gentle gardener who cares enough for our lives to step in and to trim off those things that are holding us back from bearing fruit that is meet for the Master.

Tilling the Soil

Read the parable of the vine and the branches found in John 15:1-11.

Planting Hope

He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. (John 15:2, NIV)
