Hebrews 11 is often referred to as “The Wall of Faith.” It’s there we find men and women like Abraham and Sarah, David, Moses, and Enoch. We see faithful servants who did what it took to stay true to their faith.

One look at the life of Samson, and you might wonder why he is listed among them. We all know he was strong, but what was so faithful about him? To find the answer, you have to follow his story through to the end.

Samson was a Nazarite who judged the people of Israel for 20 years. What he wasn’t so much, was a man closely connected to God. It would seem that he was far more interested in women than he was in the things of the Lord. He was physically strong, but spiritually, he was weak.

Elisabeth Elliot once wrote, “Of one thing I am perfectly sure: God’s story never ends with ashes,” and, thanks be to God, neither did Samson’s.

Here’s the beautiful thing about grace, it never runs out. It’s never too late to get right with God. Like I’ve said countless times, it doesn’t matter what you did yesterday, the question is, what will you do today?  It doesn’t matter where you have been or what you have done, our Father is waiting to welcome you home.

There’s no doubt this man was courageous. He killed 1,000 Philistines, and he tore apart a lion with his bare hands, but it wasn’t until Samson was imprisoned, broken, and blind that he finally saw his purpose and found his way back to God. It took his entire life to get to that place of humility and devotion, but the important thing is, he did.

Like Jesus, who was ready and willing to give up his life, Samson was finally ready to die for his people, delivering them out of the hands of the Philistines, thus fulfilling the mission for which he was called.

Planting Hope

But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.  (Isaiah 40:31, KJV)
