Mom always made cakes. She made cookies and homemade bread, and like every mom back in the day she had dinner on the table at 5 o’clock. Every meal was good, but once in a while it was great. Why? Because every once in a while she’d open the fridge after dinner and surprise us with a fancy dessert. Sometimes it was Jell-O, and other days it was pudding served in a bougie glass dish.

As I got to thinking about that today, I wondered if I ever said thank you. Did I tell her how much I loved Jell-O, or how good it felt to be treated so well? Did I pause for a moment to appreciate her?

Perhaps you’ve worked hard all day at cleaning the house and your work went unnoticed. Maybe you made a wonderful meal that took all afternoon, and no one slowed down to say thanks. Maybe you’ve worked hard at the office and someone else took the credit for the work that you did…

We all have moments like that. Days when our work goes unnoticed. Other days when we feel overlooked. And so, it’s important for us to remember the One that we serve. The One Who does take notice. The One who sees what others may not.

The Bible tells us,

Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving. (Colossians 3:23-24, NIV)

The greatest blessings are found in the quiet moments when no one but God sees the work of your hands.
