There’s an old Cherokee legend about two wolves at war which serves to remind us how important it is to consider good things.
It goes on to say that one night a grandfather was teaching his grandson about life. “A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy. “It is a terrible fight between two wolves. One is evil – anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, and false pride.” He continued, “The other is good – joy, peace, love, hope, humility, kindness, compassion, and faith. The same fight is going on inside you, and inside every other person you know.”
The boy paused to think for a moment before looking up at his grandfather. “Which one will win?” He asked.
The wise man simply replied, “It’s the one that you feed.”
Hearing that story, I’m reminded of the scripture that says, “And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.” (Galatians 5:24)
When we crucify our sin, we no longer feed that sin. We don’t entertain it, we don’t meditate on it, and we don’t engage with it, even if just for a moment.
Those who are in Christ delight in His law. We meditate on His Word, we obey the Word, and we feed our minds with His goodness and truth.
That’s how we put down our flesh, and that’s how we win the good fight.
