Today’s Scattered Seeds

Today was a warm day outside, but even so I decided to make warm chicken soup. It’s my son’s favorite after all, and today is his birthday.

Just after I added the spices, I decided to sit down and write him a letter. I wanted to offer a little encouragement as he embarks on this life set before him. I won’t enclose the entire letter, but there is a small part that I’d like to share, as I hope to encourage you too…

Your efforts are adding to something. Someday you will see. You’ll see how this time of training was necessary, how this time of waiting was needed, how these years of uncertainty were all a normal part of developing into the person God designed you to be.

Remember a spoonful of pepper isn’t good on its own, it’s the recipe that makes all the difference. The combination of every ingredient is necessary and yet few are outstanding alone.

So is life, some parts of growing are bitter while others are sweet, and yet it’s the sum of the parts that make up the whole. The sum of everything that we’ve learned and have been through. The sum of every heartache and joy. The sum of every stressful experience that we’ve tried to avoid is an important part of the journey to who we become.

Tilling the Soil

Whatever it is that God has given you to do today, do it with all of your might. Even if you don’t understand why God has brought you to this place, or where He is taking you, trust in His guidance.

Planting Hope

As you do not know the path of the wind, or how the body is formed in a mother’s womb, so you cannot understand the work of God, the Maker of all things. Sow your seed in the morning, and at evening let your hands not be idle, for you do not know which will succeed, whether this or that, or whether both will do equally well. (Ecclesiastes 11:5-66, NIV)
