I’ll never forget that email I got. It was an inquiry from an agent whose client was interested in co-authoring a book with me. I gave the agent a call, and after she told me her client’s name, I had no idea who she was. That is until my kids filled me in later that afternoon. Apparently, she’s a major pop star with a big hit on the radio. I knew the song well, but the artist’s name I wasn’t all that familiar with until I started Googling.
To this day I have no idea why she was interested in writing with me, or how she even knew who I was, but nevertheless, I was over the moon with excitement about this. Plans were moving along, until one day they weren’t.
One silent week led to another, and soon I accepted the disappointing fact that somewhere along the way they had changed their mind.
We all have those days, don’t we? When expectations are crushed and our plans come crashing down. It’s hard to find the silver lining on those dark and cloudy days, but even so, there’s beauty in the clouds.
Disappointments offer us an opportunity to grow, a chance to lean on God, and possibilities that open the door to something better. They offer us a chance to empty ourselves as we allow God to pour Himself in.
