Note: In order to free up a little more time to finish up Bible studies, I will only be writing Scattered Seed Devotionals on Mondays through Fridays.

Today’s Scattered Seeds

“I have a little problem,” I told my husband today. “I’m distracted by talking puppies and adorable goats.”

Seems like every time I log onto my computer I’m drawn away by one video after another. Yelling squirrels, contagious laughter, and adorable kids are just a few of the things that grab my attention. One look at the clock and I’m reminded that I’ve wasted yet another hour. One look at the Bible and I’m reminded that moderation is key.

Moderation is the ability to set healthy limits and adhere to them. It’s deciding how much chocolate cake you can have rather than avoiding it all together. It’s choosing a measure of time to enjoy the simple things in life before getting back to work. It’s shopping for Christmas without breaking the bank.

But how? How do we go from a lifestyle of excess to living within our means? The same way we tackle any giant–by the power of God.

The best plan of attack starts with a morning prayer. God helps us formulate a plan, and He helps us achieve it.

I’m reminded of David who said, “My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.” (Psalm 5:3, KJV)

David knew what it took to slay a giant. He knew that his wisdom and strength rested on the power of God, and he drew on it daily.

With the goodness of God to desire our highest welfare, the wisdom of God to plan it, and the power of God to achieve it, what do we lack? Surely we are the most favored of all creatures. – A.W. Towzer
