It used to be that I was a once-a-week cleaner if that. My bedroom back home was a disaster, and everyone knew it. When my clothes came off at night, they hit the floor, and that’s where they stayed until my parents forced me to clean up my room. My bed was a mess, my dresser was a mess, and I was a mess.
I’ve come to learn over time–even more so now since the kids have moved out–that picking up after yourself is really not all that hard. Why live in a mess when you can enjoy the comfort of a clean and orderly home?
As I got to thinking about that today, I was reminded of a question I got from a reader a few years back, “If God forgives you,” she said, “why not sin today and ask His forgiveness tomorrow?” In other words, accumulate a mess to clean up all at once.
The more I’ve thought about that over the years, the more I’ve come to appreciate the answer: Don’t waste the grace you’ve been given. Don’t treasure the sin that you’re in. God’s plan for your life isn’t far off in the future, it’s a plan that starts here and now. It’s a life of abundant joy and incomparable peace. Why put that off for tomorrow when you can be blessed today?
Satan comes to kill, to steal, and destroy, but he can’t touch this treasure inside. He’ll try, I assure you of that, which is why it’s important that we’re walking in faith. He can’t steal your joy if it’s rooted in Christ. He can’t rob you of peace if you’re grounded in faith.
And so, my friend, salvation is more than simply a ticket to heaven someday, it’s a relationship with God, that starts right here and right now. Turn away from your sin, and turn to the One who can save you from it.
