God's Steady, Eternal, Unchanging, Love
As I sat there looking at those pictures, I started thinking about how much life has changed. Most days, it doesn’t feel like it. Today looks a lot like yesterday, which looked a lot like the one before. We make coffee, run errands, fold the laundry, answer emails… nothing dramatic, nothing that screams, “This is a big moment!”
But then you look back—and you realize everything has changed.
People we once loved are gone, and new faces have taken their place at the table.
The homes we lived in belong to someone else now.
The babies we nursed aren’t children anymore.
The churches we grew up in have new pastors, new signs, sometimes even new buildings.
And our bodies? Let’s just say they don’t move quite like they used to. At least mine doesn’t.
People come and go.
Seasons shift.
Children leave the nest.
Plans change.
Life moves on.
And some days, that’s a hard reality to sit with.
But here’s the hope God gives us: in a world that keeps changing, there is a place to stand that does not move.
Psalm 103 reminds us, “But from everlasting to everlasting the Lord’s love is with those who fear him, and his righteousness with their children’s children” (Psalm 103:17, NIV).
His love stretches back before our first breath and reaches far beyond our final day. It doesn’t thin out with time, and it doesn’t fade with age.
Because of His love, we can trust that none of this is random—our days are held in His grip, and He is working out a purpose we can’t always see.
And that matters. It means we don’t have to dwell in the past, wishing we could go back to what was. Instead, we lift our eyes toward what’s ahead.
Charles Spurgeon once said, “Time is short. Eternity is long. It is only reasonable that this short life be lived in the light of eternity.”
That light of eternity—that’s the lens God invites us to use. It changes how we see everything: every loss, every joy, every quiet afternoon that feels “ordinary.” It reminds us, just as Paul writes, that “what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal” (2 Corinthians 4:18, NIV).
And this is where it gets personal. We’re not just talking about endless time; we’re talking about eternity with the One who loves us more than we can comprehend. The same love that reached down to save you is the love that will keep you forever.
God’s eternal love means your story doesn’t end with loss, disappointment, aging, or change. Your story is—and always will be—held inside His never-ending care.
So as you miss the days gone by or look forward to the ones ahead, remember this:
The God who loved you at the cross is the same God who will love you a million years from now and a trillion after that. From everlasting to everlasting, His love is yours in Christ.
And that changes how we live in this ever-changing life.
