IS THIS STUDY FOR YOU?
Hi ladies! I’m so glad you’re joining us for this Bible study. Since the first book resonated with women all over the world, I felt that God wasn’t finished writing this message on our hearts. There’s more to learn. More to become. And the Proverbs 31 Woman? She still has more to teach us.
Each week, we’ll look at 1 of 7 virtues that reflect her character and faith: faithfulness, humility, discipline, compassion, courage, joy, and discernment.
These qualities are just as important today as they were when this passage was first written, and with God’s help, these traits can take root in our lives too.
Perhaps you’re asking yourself if this study is really for you. You may even wonder whether Proverbs 31 was written only for married women in the season of raising children. If that’s you, let me assure you that the heart of this passage speaks to women in every season of life—both married and single. Its focus is character: what she values, how she speaks, how she works, and who she fears.
So whether you’re building a home, serving at work, caring for others, mentoring, or waiting on God for what’s next, this study gives us a clear picture of godliness lived out.

Why Faithfulness Comes First
As we begin this study together, there’s something important I want us to settle in our hearts from the very beginning.
Before we talk about how capable this woman is—or compare her strengths to our weaknesses—we need to remember who the Proverbs 31 woman is and who she is not. You’ll see me return to this again later in the book, but it matters that we hold onto it right from the start. She is not an actual person. She is an ideal. She represents a picture of godly character meant to guide and encourage us, not a checklist used to measure our worth. No woman lives this out perfectly every single day, and Scripture never asks us to.
With that in mind, notice where the passage itself begins. Proverbs 31:11 (NIV) tells us, “Her husband has full confidence in her and lacks nothing of value.” Before her work is described, before her wisdom or strength is praised, trust is established. That trust is not built on talent or productivity. It grows quietly, over time, through consistent faithfulness.
The next verse continues this same thought: “She brings him good, not harm, all the days of her life” (Proverbs 31:12, NIV). This isn’t describing a single act of kindness or a good season. It speaks of a settled direction—a life marked by steady devotion and intentional good. Faithfulness shows up in daily choices, in perseverance, and in a heart that remains committed through changing circumstances. It is enduring, purposeful, and lifelong.
When Scripture begins with trust, it shows us where our own study needs to begin as well.
Faithfulness shapes character before it ever shapes actions. It speaks to who a woman is when no one is watching. Qualities like humility, diligence, kindness, and wisdom flow from a heart that has already chosen loyalty—to God first, and then to the responsibilities He entrusts to her. Without faithfulness, virtues become occasional efforts rather than steady patterns of life.
Faithfulness also anchors a woman to God rather than to her circumstances. Scripture consistently ties faithfulness to God’s own character: “The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises and faithful in all he does” (Psalm 145:13, NIV). Beginning here reminds us that this study is not about striving harder, but about staying rooted in a faithful God, even as seasons change.
This kind of faithfulness is what makes growth possible. Jesus taught that faithfulness in small things comes before greater responsibility (Luke 16:10). Starting here quietly sets the expectation that spiritual growth happens through steady obedience, not dramatic moments. It speaks hope to women who feel ordinary or unseen, reminding them that consistency matters deeply to God.
And finally, placing faithfulness first keeps the focus where it belongs—on perseverance, not perfection. This is not a call to flawlessness, but to perseverance. Faithfulness is not something we perform; it is rooted in whom we trust. That truth frees us from performance and draws us back to daily dependence on the Lord.
By beginning with faithfulness, we establish the tone for everything that follows. This journey is rooted in commitment—to God, to His Word, and to walking with Him over a lifetime. From that place, every other virtue finds room to grow.
As you move through the first chapter, take your time. Pay attention to the quiet ways faithfulness is lived out—not in grand gestures, but in steady commitment and everyday choices. Observe what God is showing you through His Word. We’ll come back together on Friday to reflect a little more on faithfulness as we continue this journey side by side.
And if you’d like to connect with other women who are walking through this study, Join the discussion in our Facebook group. It’s a warm, encouraging space to share what God is teaching you and to grow together.
