My Closing Thoughts on Jonah – Introduction
What a chaotic night! After taking our dog for what I thought would be a relaxing drive, a little mishap left my car, and my floors, stained with blood. Gabby’s all right now, but the mess she left behind got me thinking about the stains we carry and how God lovingly wipes them away.
Life has a way of presenting us with tangible situations that parallel our spiritual journey. As I got to scrubbing and removing the stains, I was reminded of the stubborn “stains” of my past–the ones that loom large in mind, casting a shadows on God’s unfailing grace.
I don’t think I’m the only person who’s felt this way. I know that God has the ability to forgive me, but there have been days when I questioned His character, asking myself, if He wants to forgive me. It’s easy to accept forgiveness when it comes to the little sins, but the big ones? Some days they had me second-guessing the grace of our Lord.
It’s for this reason that the parables we discussed this week are important. They offer us a panoramic view of a God who doesn’t flinch at stains, whether they’re the size of a drop or an ocean. These stories echo a resounding promise: both His grace and compassion are bigger than any stain we might have.
What I’ve come to realize is that when we minimize His grace, we minimize His gift. If we say that our debt is too big, we’re diminishing the immeasurable price that was paid for our sin. But there’s something else we must know: God doesn’t just have the power to cleanse us of our sins; He ardently desires to do so. His love is an active, pursuing love that led Him to the cross in the first place.
If you’re in a similar place, doubting if you could ever truly be forgiven, let me assure you: the same God who sought out one lost sheep, welcomed home a wayward son, and rewarded the latecomers into the vineyard is the God who is seeking you out, ready to welcome you home, eager to bless you abundantly.
You are loved by an almighty God,
