I’ve come to know the sounds in my home: the hum of a dryer, footsteps on the stairs, a drip from my kitchen faucet, the gentle thud of a refrigerator door when it closes, the sound of a car pulling up in the driveway, and the snore of a pug… All sounds I’m accustomed to hearing day in and day out. The splendid sound of family life in one melodious accord.
Somehow I know when something’s off. I know when it’s too quiet. I know when something’s up. I can tell when something’s weighing heavy on my child’s heart, I can tell when my husband’s feeling down.
As I was thinking about this today, I was reminded just how close our Savior is. How He’s always watching, and how He knows what’s on our heart. Every tear we’ve ever had has been collected in a bottle, and every hair has been counted on our head. You have to be close to a person day in and day out to even notice those things, and yet He’s closer than we could ever imagine that He is.
Nothing escapes His attention. Nothing you do goes unnoticed. Nothing surprises Him. And nothing happens apart from His will.

When you are feeling down or discouraged, remember that God is much closer than you think. You are not going through your trials alone.
Thou tellest my wanderings: put thou my tears into thy bottle: are they not in thy book? When I cry unto thee, then shall mine enemies turn back: this I know; for God is for me. (Psalm 56:8-9, KJV)

Darlene Schacht and her husband Michael live in Manitoba Canada where the summers are beautiful and the winters are cold. Together they’ve come to learn that relationships aren’t always easy, but that marriage, the way God intended it to be, is a treasure worth fighting for.
