It’s been a busy month. Maybe the busiest month of my life as every day from sun up to sun down we’ve been busy–busy painting walls, washing windows, fixing uneven patio stones, scrubbing floors, and fluffing pillows. For the most part, we’ve done pretty well with only a few small disasters. It all comes to a head soon as we’re gearing up to sell our house.

I’ve always enjoyed moving. Maybe it stems from the fact that my parents moved more times than I can count, or maybe I just enjoy the feeling of a new home with fresh dreams and possibilities.

What I’m not enjoying all that much is the fact that our boys are growing up and moving out in just a few short weeks. Oh, how I wish they were young again so I could keep them by my side.

People warned us that the years were passing quickly. “Enjoy them while they’re young,” they said, “because they grow up fast.”

Holding onto time is like holding water in your fist. Even so, I tried to breathe in every moment that I could. But they were right, time slipped by too quickly, and now they’re leaving home.

I know that letting them go will be the hardest part in all of this, and yet, I’m thankful that I’m not alone.

I’m thankful that I serve a God who’s ever-present. He’s the same God who stayed with me in the hospital when our baby boy was sick. He’s the same God who brought comfort to me when my daughter moved out to start a family of her own. And, He’s the same God who stood by me when my father passed away.

If the past has taught me anything it’s this: the same faithful God who brought me this far will bring me much further yet.
