Daily Devotion – My Hope is in You, Lord

John Piper once said, “The deepest root of Christian womanhood is hope in God. She doesn’t put her hope in her husband or in getting one, and she doesn’t put her hope in her looks.”

Growing up, I put my hope in my dad. He was an amazing man who somehow managed to live in a house with one wife, six girls, and one bathroom. He worked hard, kept us safe, and did his best to fulfill our needs. Dad could fix anything (who can’t when there’s duct tape) and still found time to tell us stories at night. There was never a day I went hungry and there was rarely a day he didn’t make me smile. He was everything to me.

I loved that man so much and always will. But in 1976 Mom and Dad led our family toward something better than they could ever supply on their own–faith in God through His Son, Jesus Christ.

There isn’t a gift under the sun that is greater than that. Faith in God is more than a comforting thought, it’s a strong foundation with roots that run deep.

Without faith, it would have been hard to watch him step out of this world, but because of my faith, I could face it with joy.

Tilling the Soil

Read Genesis 22:1-19 where we see Abraham’s faith tested, and his hope undefiled.

Planting Hope

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. (1 Peter 1:13, KJV)
