Have you ever had a craving late at night when all the stores were closed? I have. Just recently I wanted chocolate and nothing else would do. Vanilla cookies just don’t cut it when you’re craving chocolate almonds. In the same way, success doesn’t cut it when we’re craving more of God.

We live in a society that hungers to be seen and to be heard. The lure of popularity is bigger than it’s ever been as social media dangles the carrot of success in front of our computer screens.

And yet, success without holiness is nothing more than a heap of rotting ladders pointing to the sky. Anyone who’s reached “the top” could tell you they’re still longing to be fed. Our hunger will never be satisfied until that void is filled by God.

How do we do that? Where do we go to be filled? The answer is found in the sermon on the Mount:

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. (Matthew 5:6, NIV)

There’s a satiating fullness in a faith-focused life. The fullness of joy, and of peace, and contentment. It’s unlike anything this world has to offer because it can never truly give us peace. Sure we may discover a fleeting sense of happiness here and there but even happiness fades in a crumbling world.

We’re hungry for more, we need more, and He’s the only One Who satisfies.
