Today’s Scattered Seeds

We used to sing a beautiful chorus in church, and sometimes we still sing it. Maybe you’ve heard it too. There’s a part that goes like this…

The name of the Lord is a strong tower
The righteous run into it and they are saved

I’m reminded of the remnants of a fortress not far from our home known as Upper Fort Gary. Only the gates remain today, but at one time the 15-foot walls of thick stone protected the centre of trade and it’s people.

Scripture after scripture tells us that we too have a fortress. A hedge of protection more fortified and secure than any fortress could be.

We never know when or what it might be, but we do know that the enemy seeks to destroy and that he is seeking us out.

His tactics are vicious, his temptations are sly. He wants to steal our joy, destroy our families, and cause us to doubt. But he’s no match for the power of God.

Remember Paul wrote, “We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed.” (2 Corinthians 4:8-9, NIV)

Whenever you’re facing the enemy, run to the Lord. If you’re discouraged, depressed, in doubt about your faith, upset about this world, suffering loss… spend time in the presence of God. Open up the Bible and let His Word strengthen you.

There’s joy to be found in our faith when we trust in the wisdom of God. There’s incomparable peace to found in those pages. Words that remind us this world’s not our home. A Savior who tells us that He’s coming back. Love that sent our Lord to the cross so that we might be saved.
