Today’s Scattered Seeds

Proverbs 16:9 tells us, “A man’s heart deviseth his way: but the LORD directeth his steps.”

We assume, and we plan, and we dream, and we hope… but God chooses our path. He opens one door, and as frustrating as it might seem, He closes another.

This year I had plans. I had a little office space at my husband’s work, two kids were still living with us, and I had a comfy place to come home to.

All of that changed in the course of a month as Covid took over our lives. All that I’m faced with today is uncertainty. Where will we live? Where will we work? Where will my kids be in two months from now? Will they have a place of their own? Will they come to visit as much as I hope? And the questions go on.

Some days I stand back and I wonder, Is this really happening, Lord? Where are you taking all this?

And then I’m reminded that life was just as uncertain back then as it is today. All that we have is this moment, tomorrow belongs to the Lord. The only certainty that I’ve ever had is found in the power of God.

Wherever I am and whatever I do is out of my hands. In fact, it’s never been in my hands to begin with. To think that I had this life all planned out was a ridiculous notion right from the start.

His job is to lead, my job is to follow.

The good news in all this? His plans excel mine in every possible way. He knows my past, He knows my future, and He knows what tomorrow will bring. He knows what I need and how I need to prepare.

I don’t need to have all of the answers. What I really need is to trust in His power and to lean on His strength.

Planting Hope

Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof. (Matthew 6:34, KJV)
