Corrie Ten Boom

Corrie Ten Boom's Bedroom

Corrie’s bedroom.

My daughter and I just finished watching “The Hiding Place” today, and it was so good! We happened to find it on YouTube, and while it was incredibly pixilated it was so worth watching. We both loved it!

Who would have thought that anyone could find joy in the worst place on earth?

For those who don’t know the story, the Ten Boom family were Dutch Christians who helped many Jews escape the Holocaust by hiding them in their home. A secret place, known as the hiding place, was built behind the closet in Corrie Ten Boom’s bedroom. The family was caught, arrested, taken to prison, and from there Corrie and her sister Betsie were transferred to the Ravensbruck concentration camp.

While the conditions were unspeakable, Corrie’s sister Betsie was a constant reminder that God is good and that joy comes from within. She was able to smile in the darkest moments of their life.

I don’t want to spoil the rest of the story for you, but I have to say this–I cried at the end when Corrie herself looked into the camera and said, “No pit is so deep that He is not deeper still. With Jesus, even in our darkest moments the best remains, and the very best is yet to be.”

Her book, The Hiding Place, came around in the 80s, but I haven’t picked it up in years. I should have because it’s so good. I absolutely loved her family, especially her father. And Betsie of course was amazing. They all were.

With that said, I’ve made a printable for you from one of my favorite Corrie Ten Boom quotes. It says, “Every experience God gives us, every person He puts in our lives is the perfect preparation for the future that only He can see.” (The Hiding Place)
