I recently noticed that a friend of mine, Jessica Heights, is launching a new eBook with the most creative title, 100 Pound Loser: How I Ate What I Wanted, Had Four Babies, & Still Took Control Of My Weight – And You Can Too!

The minute I heard about this book, I got my hands on a copy of it and dove in over the holidays. I have to tell you that I would have read it all in one night except for the fact that it was so good that I wanted to make the experience last, so I stretched it out to two! I absolutely LOVE Jessica’s writing style. She’s hilarious and knows exactly how to bring that out in her writing.

One thing I learned while working on Reshaping it All is that most people know what to do when it comes to losing weight, being healthy, and getting in shape. The problem is that many of us lack motivation. 100 Pound Loser is a kick in the mom jeans that so many of us need to get back on track to treating our bodies well!

Thank you Jessica for giving me a review copy. Now without further ado I’d love to introduce you to my readers…

Hi friends! My name is Jessica, and I’m here today to talk with you about something most of us have struggled with at one time or another: weight!

Especially this time of year, with the holidays and all the accompanying goodies over {and probably sticking a little in all the wrong places}, we seem to collectively come face-to-face with the fact that when life and reality and all the things that make life full and fun collide, we usually let our health go first. And so, I’m going to tackle this question with you:

“I’ve gotten way off track in the past year when it comes to eating well and working out. Is there any motivation you can offer to nudge my foot back on the track?”

I don’t know if you know this about me, but I haven’t always been what you’d call “healthy.” After my first baby was born, I was tipping the scale at an alarmingly high, and extremely unhealthy weight.

After a serious reality check, and a lot or prayer, I began the process of losing 100 pounds. Now, with three subsequent children, I can proudly say that yes, I lost 100 pounds, and bounced back after each baby!

But…that doesn’t mean I don’t still struggle. After all, old habits can be a little too easy to slide back into. I have gotten off track now and then, just like anyone else. But when I do, I’ve found it’s been helpful to:

Set A Small Goal

Is there anything more satisfying than reaching a goal? Maybe…but nothing I can think of! 😉 An easy way to snap myself back into my long-lost motivation is to set a small goal…one I know I can meet. A good example of this is to shoot for wearing a certain pair of jeans by a specific date. For my body, the numbers on the scale may not always match the way my body looks and feels, so I aim for results I can actually see.

Focus!

Here’s the thing about me: I eat pretty much whatever I want. Now, before you get mad and throw things at me, thinking I have one of those super metabolisms or something, let me assure you, it’s not the case! I said, I eat whatever I want,” not “I eat everything I want!” That’s an important distinction!

I make sure to eat something I really want once a day. But, I also make sure to keep the rest of my food choices for the day on the straight and narrow. That way, my day balances out, and I don’t feel like I’ve given anything up.

Take Hold of the R Word – Reality!

Listen, if I’m going to stay on track long term, killing myself with over-exercising and a horrible diet I hate is not going to cut it. In fact, I’ll probably give up fairly quickly! That said, it’s always a good idea to keep both feet firmly planted in reality. I know I probably won’t be able to run a marathon after just a few weeks of exercise; nor will I be able to drop crazy amounts of weight at the drop of a hat. But every step in the right direction counts…especially the steady small ones!

So, those are my top three tips! What are your favorite ways to get back in the health & fitness groove?

Thank you so much Darlene! Here’s a little blurb about me:
