I'm the Proud Wife of a Wonderful Husband

Well, today is our day. We’re celebrating 26 years of marriage and I couldn’t be more in love with this man.

I’d love to show you a few photos of our wedding, but you know what? We don’t have any. Nope. We eloped. Dressed in our Sunday best we exchanged vows at a little chapel downtown.

Knowing that we’d soon be eloping, Michael and I got a wedding photo taken at a local carnival. You know, one of those sepia-toned vintage photo booths.

So, no I don’t have a wedding photo to share, but I do have one that was taken just a few weeks ago. It’s a little grainy, but I take what I can get. Michael’s not big on selfies. 😉

So what are we doing today? After my darling husband comes home from work we’re heading out for a nice dinner–just the two of us. I’m looking forward to a little boyfriend/girlfriend time.

    We have been married for 29 years this last July. They haven’t all been easy but through the grace of God, we are closer and stronger than ever. We are now enjoying grandparents which is the best thing ever!

    Our wedding date was scheduled 9/28/02 but after 9/11 happened on 2001 we went ahead with got married on 9/28 that month, worried my husband would have to go back to the USMC, he wanted to be sure our girls are I were taken care of in case anything happened in combat. We married quietly by the justice of peace named Ruby Love in her living room, and headed to the oceanfront and did one of those vintage pics as well and the frame was a marriage certificate. We hung it up in the living room for the longest time No one questioned it but we know they wondered. My husband wasnt called back, we still went with the huge church wedding on that same day the following year. Happy Anniversary you two!

    My husband and I have been married 4 years this December. We ran off to the courthouse and got married. Our wedding picture is one of those from old time photo places that does the western/saloon photos. That is my favorite photo of us!

    I have been married for 5years to a wonderful man. He stood by me in sickness and in trouble. He can read my mind and understand the expressions on my face. Honest and truthful he is. A very romantic man. Our relationship is just like that of romance novels. He always see God as his father. I love this man a lot.

    September 1 was our 40th anniversary……my husband surprised me with a trip to Bayfield, Wisconsin. We never had a honeymoon so this is really special! Our love just continues to grow every year. There were some rocky ones but God helped us through and will continue to in the years to come.

    Chad and I married the first time 8/30/1996! After life got in the way we divorced 7/2010. BUT GOD has restored our marriage and we were remarried 6/2013!!! PRAISE GOD!!! I claim all the years so we have been married 18 years:) thanks for sharing your story Darlene,mine is almost identical except only 2 kids!

    I have been married for 7 years. Went through some rough time, me personally-spiritually, but for the past half a year with constant reminder to read the bible and to love God, and to love my family — from my best Christ like bloggers— I’m on a mend spiritually. I’m grateful to God for the gift of my husband and my children and all the people in my life, or anyone who ever crossed my path or email. ;D

    My wonderful husband and I have been married 36 delightful years and have moved around the US 9 times during these joyful years and with God’s help raised 4 children who are on their own now! I appreciate and thank God for your anointed words that keep me working on our relationship. We have been joyful through these years always knowing that God had a sovereign plan for us in every move and every new city…our sphere of influence for Him continues to flourish wherever He plants us!     October 1st, I will be married for 4 years. They have been rough because we are opposites and I have bipolar disorder but he is the love of my life and the most wonderful man I know. He is a rock for me, no matter the weather he indures the storms. I joined the page to hopefully gain more insight as to what I could do to appreciate my husband more.     On September 21st my husband and I celebrated 3 months of marriage! I’m really enjoying this blog / website because i’m realizing that help/advice is needed at any and every stage of marriage. I married into a blended family so my husband and I haven’t really been able to enjoy the blissful honeymoon stages that most newleyweds get to experience and one day I was looking for advice and stumbled upon this site!     My husband and I just celebrated 9 years in July and are already planning our 10 year getaway next summer to go out west to Wyoming and Montana! I cannot wait! 2 beautiful boys, a home, jobs, continuing educational endeavors, sports, church, on and on and on…..and I love every second of it with him!

    I’ve been married to my best friend for over 32 years. He STILL loves to spoil me. He is hardworking, sexy, romantic, and keeps asking me “Will you marry me?” When I answer, “I already have,”, he says “Yay!!” We have six children (four still at home, but we’re trying to get them to fly), and two border collies mixes…which have taught us that one dog at a time is plenty!! We both love the Lord Jesus, and my husband blankets our family in prayer. He is definitely the more spiritual of us two, and I praise God is brought us together!

    I am so grateful for your writting, everyday I wake up to something new you have written! Thank you for sharing your wedding story! I must confess that I will be married 1 year on Monday 26th of September, to the best second chance at love I’ve ever had. We too eloped, dressed in our Sunday best to a little chapel, I have improntu pictures of the day from the members of the church as they stayed after the service for what I thought was just a him and I ceremony. My children (from a previous marriage) were not present since we thought it was just us. Most of our family doesnt know because we were supposed to do the “big wedding” last April but everyone had reasons why they couldnt make it. I cancelled it and said we’d do it later, we dont have any fancy pictures either and I thought I wanted that, guess we all do, just a little. After reading your short, sweet and full of love post and the most awesomest selfie!, I realized that its not about the “big wedding” or the “fancy pictures” but the journey of your love together as you grow..all that “other stuff” is for everyone else! I still have to tell the family and after reading this I take more courage to let it out the bag!! I feel a weight lifted somehow, thank you so much for all your writting!     Darlene, Happy Anniversary!! I love your blog, and all of your posts! I heard about you through my niece who is/was having a hard time in her marriage (still in God’s hands). My husband and I have been married 15+ years. I say + because we were together almost 5 years prior to marriage. I was married once before ( a very long story). I made sure that my husband was “the man” this time before I married him.     41 years, 5 months and 3 days. Yes, there have been difficult days, even DIFFICULT days. Many years ago, I read this quote: “It’s not the love that keeps the marriage together – it’s the marriage that keeps the love together.” That has been very true in our relationship and I am thankful that we did not give up. Yesterday I saw a wall hanging in Hobby Lobby: “It’s never too late to live happily ever after.”

    23 years! I love that you said boyfriend and girlfriend time. I call my husband, “boyfriend” We married later in life.     We eloped as well! Met online in August 1998, met face-to-face on December 23, 1998 and went to Las Vegas on January 1, 1999. Been married for over 15 years. 🙂

    We celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary in June. We are celebrating each month by going on a “date” for $25. So, it is a goal that we do not over spend – but celebrate this yr!

    31 years… 24 married, 10 moves, 4 deployments, 1 beautiful little girl (whose not so little anymore)…amazing memories, incredible friends, leads to an amazing journey that I am so happy to be on with you…Happy Anniversary…near or far you are always in my heart , your faith is inspiring, your love is a blessing, and I look forward to our retirement with open arms!!! He’s currently on his final deployment, but I just sent this out to him on the 22nd …I love love love your book!     Matthew and I eloped on May 10, 1986. We lived in El Monte, CA and eloped to a minister’s home in West Covina, CA. On May 12, 2001, we renewed our vows at the Chapel in the Wildwood in Upland, CA. I am so in love with him, but it wasn’t always that way. But we now have God in the center and I can’t imagine my life without him.

    Congrats on your anniversary! My husband and I celebrated two years this past Sunday, the 21st. What a rocky time we have had too. He was in a serious car accident two weeks after our wedding that led to brain surgery and a halo brace for three months. He is as improved as he is going to be at this point physically. In January, he was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome, so we have been struggling through that together and trying to figure out how to relate to each other in terms that we can both understand. It is frustrating!

    Today is also my husbands work anniversary, he’s been at his company 24 years. But more importantly Happy Wedding Anniversary !!!! We love to celebrate marriage! Too many now a days don’t see the importance of marriage and we think that is so sad. My husband and I have been married for 29 years and have 5 sons. I was afraid to read the comments because I figured that on a Christian site everyone would just gush on how wonderful it all is, I was so glad to see not everyone has it it easy. I was as equally glad to see people saying that even though it all hasn’t been easy and wonderful, that it is very worth it. My husband and I met on a blind date, so we say “Who says blind dates don’t work out?” We went to an amusement park (we were 17 years old) and now looking back we realize that is an interesting thing in the fact that marriage is a lot like a rollercoaster, it has it’s ups and downs. We’ve had lots of ups and downs in 29 years and have needed lots of Faith and prayers to get through and I know we will continue to need them. I will pray for everyone who has mentioned that they need them, I believe in the power of prayer. Marriage is worth doing whatever it takes. So I will pray the Lord blesses all of our marriages.     I am of a younger generation (I am 34 yrs old). Most of my generation is not married or already divorced. I am proud to say the Lord joined me and my wonderful hubby together 13 years ago! I am so blessed to have my hubby, he is a great man!

    Happy Anniversary!!!

    We’ve been married 33 years. We got married in Las Vegas, so no pictures of our wedding either. We do however have an audio cassette tape of the ceremony.

    First Happy Anniversary! We have been married 14 wonderful years. I think that our anniversary is my favorite”holiday” for better lack of words because that is the day or lives began together and what started all the other traditions and our children’s lives. I love anniversaries!

    Happy anniversary! Wow, 26 years…I’m looking forward to that! I’ve been married 11 years and have 6 children. We also eloped, at the courthouse. Sometimes it’s a bummer not having any pictures to show the kids. Thank you for your wonderful bog.     We’ve been married for 14 1/2 years. We dated almost 3 years before getting married. I am very blessed with a very loyal husband, but I will not lie, combining two very different cultures has been difficult at times. We are both choosing to love each other through the hard times. Once I understood that love is a choice and decision and not a feeling, it has made a huge difference in the hard times. We couldn’t have done it without God and our commitment to his word!

    Happy Anniversary!!

    My husband and I have been married just over a year now. We dated, got engaged, and married in just a little over 8 months. It was pretty crazy the first few months of marriage to realize we didn’t even know each other a year earlier. It’s amazing how much God can change your life in just one year! He has been a part of every detail of our story. My husband was 40 when we met and I was 30. It was worth waiting for God’s best!

    Happy Anniversary! We have been married 27 years. We got married in a courthouse in Seattle, WA on Sat. July 4th. The judge was kind enough to come in on a Sat. holiday and marry us!!

    Lets just start with the family predicions of less than 3 years! We have had several difficult years, when TWICe, one and then the other family was wiped all at once! That was very difficult. We believe God put us together and we were NOT going to disappoint Him. October 29~~It will be 31 years. Praise God for Marriages Blessed.

    I love seeing all these different years that people have been working through their marriages and making it work.

    Husband and I have been married for 5.5 years. We were married on our 2 year anniversary for meeting each other. I pray for us often. My parents divorced after 19 years of marriage (I was entering high school at the time) and sometimes I feel I have no idea what I am doing to keep it successful. But, we work through together and I love him for helping me through. His wonderful parents have been married for almost 40 years and are incredible models for us!

    We have been married only six months and ten days! We were married on the 15th of March of this year, and it has been a truly great experience. I thoroughly enjoy all of the emails I receive from your subscription. Since my marriage went hand-in-hand with moving to a different country, I miss my super amazing weekly bible study group back in Texas, and your emails fill that gap just a little bit.     i’ve been married 35 years, it will be 36 this december. my husband Paul and I are very happly togather. I trust him with my life, and know he would never do anything to harm me, he is my best friend, my lover, my comfort.. we have not always been this close. when we decided to live the way God says, our life became so much easyer, and injoyable.

    We have been married for 25 years as of a week ago. We have had 5 wonderful children. One He has taken home to be with Him and 4 all serving Him in different ways.     How can you be married 26 years when you hardly look a day over 26 years old? Thank you for sharing that sweet picture. My husband and I have been married 21 years, will be 22 in March. By the grace of God we are together; the Lord saved us both in 2006, when our marriage would have been over at the 13-year mark. If not for Christ, we would have divorced. God is truly a redeeming God.

    Happy Anniversary! My husband and I will be married 50 years in December! Your scripture verse today was the song a friend sang at our wedding! Who knew that my life asan Army wife would entail 24 moves in 20 years and 6 more moves after that! Its been a fun ride of serving God and serving each other.     Oct 2nd we will celebrate our 20th!!! We have 6 wonderful children, ages 18 – 10. Our oldest daughter is in her first year of college. She is going for Elementary education. Our oldest son is a Senior, a daughter that is a junior, a son that is a freshman, a daughter that is a 7th grader, and a son that is in 5th!!
    We have enjoyed every stage of our children’s lives. Sometimes it is challenging, but being able to show them the reason God wants them/doesn’t want them to do things has been the greatest blessing! I love directing hearts to God!

I’m thrilled to know that such an off-beat start to a marriage has held together for so long. 🙂 I hope that doesn’t sound condescending, it’s just that it seems like many elopements happen because the bride and groom are caught up in the moment of “being in love” or trying to run away from their families (sometimes for very good reasons!), thinking that they are running into something so much better and learning later how much work, time and sacrifice – in addition to love! – marriage really takes. Yeah you!! Congratulations, and I really mean it! 🙂

    My husband and I met in high school a little over 31 years ago. We’ve been married for 27.5 years and are almost empty nesters! We’re so very glad we’re still best friends since we find ourselves alone together more often with our oldest about to graduate from college and our younger 2 about to go away to school (they are living at home and finishing 2 free years of school at community college before going to a university). I am more in love with my husband than I’ve ever been and it just keeps getting better! Thanks for your posts – they are much appreciated..
