It was Friday afternoon. I went to my mailbox to find this big envelope with a book inside. I tend to get a lot of books sent to me, but most of them are the usual 200 page paperback books. This one was different. It’s a hardcover coffee-table type book with stunning photography, that reads like a magazine.

I started flipping through the pages and remembered that the author Jessica Rey was the same girl who spoke about modesty a few years back in “The Evolution of the Swimsuit.” You might remember the popular quote, “Modesty isn’t about covering up our bodies because they’re bad, modesty isn’t about hiding ourselves… it’s about revealing our dignity. – Jessica Rey”

As I’m going through this book I see a lot of inspiring quotes, and I get to thinking… this book is perfect for my 17-year-old daughter.

I know you’ll ask the question, Is this book biblically based? My answer to that would be that it’s biblically sound. In other words it reinforces the values that we teach Christian girls about modesty, dating, and self respect. They stress the importance of finding a spouse with the same faith. I didn’t see Bible verses in it, but I found great encouragement and wise teaching.

They remind girls that men and women were created differently. They include quotes from people like Pastor Steven Furtick, and Blogger Matt Walsh.

This post is just a glimpse into this wonderful book. I really enjoyed everything about it, and I know my daughter will too.

Jessica Rey and her co-author Leah Darrow encourage girls to wait for a good guy…

They teach girls to appreciate themselves…

book8

book5

And they warn girls about the dangers of online messaging…

So what am I going to do with this amazing book? I’m going to put it on my daughter’s pillow. I know that once she opens the cover, she’ll love it every bit as much as I do!

LOVE this! Thanks for sharing, the book has a great message. Also I’ve been enjoying the marriage prayers (I recently signed up). Praying them over my marriage. I thank God for your ministry.

What a bummer. I bought this book with high hopes based on the recommendation. And while it is a beautiful, hardback book with great artistic appeal, the message was disappointing. I’d hoped for a Christ honoring book with a gospel focus on modesty… However, this was a very worldly take on modesty, dress, and carrying oneself that included words and ideas I would not want my 14 year old daughter to know or consider. Just wanted others to realize it is written more from a secular perspective, rather than being gospel focused. I should not have assumed… Lesson learned!

In regards to the picture with the message about social media being public, our first thought should be that there is nothing to worry about, that there is nothing out there that we’ve posted that we are ashamed to have other people see. 🙂
