I love going through a new series, don’t you? Every time one ends on my blog I get to thinking about the next one. What could I write about? What would interest you? Where is the Lord leading?

And so I’ve been tossing around the idea of going through the virtues one by one. Not every virtue, as I could write on this topic forever, but the seven that are commonly known:

  • purity
  • self control
  • benevolence
  • diligence
  • patience
  • kindness
  • humility

What I really like about this study is that virtue calls us to action. As we exercise each one of them, they bring our flesh in line with our Spirit.
It’s one thing to know what’s good, and it’s another to walk in obedience to the knowledge that we have received. Not always easy, but obedience to our faith is always worth the effort it takes.

Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as elaborate hairstyles and the wearing of gold jewelry or fine clothes. Rather, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight. – 1 Peter 3:3-4, NIV

What is virtue, why should we exercise it, and how is it different than the fruit of the Spirit?

These are a few of the things we’ll discuss in the introduction to the series this Thursday.

I’ll be posting on this series each Monday and Thursday, covering a different virtue each week. That will give me a few days in between to pray about it and dig into the Word.
I’m really excited about this, and pray that you’ll be encouraged by it.
Below is a schedule of the dates and the topics we’ll cover.
