Embrace the Spirit of LOVE

We Love Because He first loved us
Sometimes the most extraordinary reminders of God’s love are wrapped in the ordinary moments of everyday life. As we move through this season of Christmas, I can’t help but see them reflected in so many ways. A warm hug from my granddaughter, an encouraging text from my son, a husband who sneaks into the kitchen to clean up the dishes before I get a chance. I see love in the beauty of a clear winter night. I feel it in the stillness of an early morning as the sun illuminates the frost-covered trees and whispers of a new day.
If we would only pause to look, we’d see that we’re surrounded by love. And if we stopped to open our hearts just a little bit more, we’d find that at the heart of it all is the greatest love story ever told—the love of a Savior who gave His life as a ransom so that we might be saved.
The Bible reminds us, “We love because he first loved us” (1 John 4:19). Think about that. Jesus loved us at our worst, met us in our brokenness, and covered us with grace. That love is what Christmas is all about, and it’s the kind of love we’re called to reflect in our own lives.
But what does it look like to reflect Christ’s love in a practical way? It’s more than good intentions or kind words; it’s love in action. The kind of love that’s sacrificial, freely given, and isn’t seeking a reward. The kind of love that reaches beyond our comfort zones, beyond what’s easy or convenient, and pours out grace even when it’s undeserved. The kind of love that changes lives.
Here are five simple yet powerful ways we can reflect Christ’s love this week:
- Pray for those who challenge you: Take a moment to pray for someone who’s been difficult to love. Ask God to soften your heart and theirs.
- Reach out in kindness: Send a text, write a note, or make a quick call to someone who might need encouragement.
- Forgive freely: Let go of a grudge or hurt you’ve been holding onto. Trust God to heal your heart.
- Serve sacrificially: Look for ways to help someone this week, even if it costs you time or effort.
- Show up intentionally: Spend time with someone who may feel overlooked or lonely. Your presence might be the encouragement they need.

This Week’s Challenge
Choose one of the actions on the list and apply it to someone you have in mind. Maybe it’s the person you’ve been avoiding, the one who’s been on your heart, or someone you know could use an extra measure of grace. Take that step, and trust God to work through you to reflect His love in their life.
