P31 Bible Study Week 1 Part 2

This week, a particular verse spoke to my heart. Proverbs 31:15-16 says,

She gets up while it is still night;
she provides food for her family
and portions for her female servants.
She considers a field and buys it;
out of her earnings she plants a vineyard. (NIV)

This couldn’t be any further from who I am, especially now that my children are grown. Some days, you’ll find that I’m still awake in the wee hours of the morning, immersed in a Bible study, finishing laundry, or washing my dishes.

I love planting flowers, but a vineyard? That’s something I’ve never tried. My wardrobe lacks the color purple but I do have several shades of pink that pair well with a great pair of jeans.

With that, I want to remind you, my friends, that the heart of Proverbs 31 isn’t about the specifics of those early morning hours or what kinds of seeds we are planting. It’s about embracing the virtuous traits of the Proverbs 31 woman while recognizing that our loving God has a unique plan for each one of us.

1 Peter 4:10 tells us that

Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. (NIV)

This means that even if our gifts or circumstances don’t align perfectly with the Proverbs 31 woman, we can still serve God and others faithfully and virtuously.

View these scriptures as a warm, inclusive invitation from the Lord, applicable to every woman’s journey. Whether you’re blissfully married or boldly single, whether you’re nurturing little ones at home or fostering growth in different aspects of life, you have the capacity to embody the virtues laid out in Proverbs 31.

Remember Paul’s words to the Romans in Romans 12:6-8,

We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. (NIV)

So let’s strive to use these gifts and apply these virtues in our everyday lives, with a prayerful heart. Let’s reflect His light in our own unique way, while the wonder of God shines through us.

You are loved by an almighty God,
