Final THOUGHTS For Week 4

Anytime my kids asked me how to handle a bully, my advice was always the same: “Don’t react, stay calm, and eventually they’ll give up.” Bullies thrive on reactions—they want to push your buttons and pull you down to their level. But here’s the thing: when you stand firm and refuse to engage in their games, you weaken their power. Bullies feed on fear and suffering, but when you starve them of conflict, they pack up and move on.

In much the same way, we are called to resist the enemy that seeks to destroy and lead us into sin. In James 4:7, we’re given this promise: “Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” Just like those bullies who lose interest when they can’t provoke a reaction, the devil retreats when we stand firm in our faith. But there’s more to resisting the devil, as James points out. Notice what he says first: “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”

Resisting the devil begins with submitting to God. After all, He’s the source of our strength.

David understood the source of his strength when he conquered the giant. You see, it wasn’t a stone that killed Goliath–it was the power behind it that did. David boldly proclaimed, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty” (1 Samuel 17:45, NIV). Like James, he knew that standing in the power of God was the only way to conquer the enemy.

As women, we face many battles—whether in our relationships, our work, or even within ourselves. If you watched my video this past week, you saw how the enemy preys on our insecurities and weaknesses. But we don’t have to face these struggles alone. Just as David leaned on God’s power to conquer his giant, we can rely on that same power to conquer our own.

Whether we’re fighting temptation, seeking peace in difficult times, or overcoming discouragement, the answer is always the same: submit to the Lord. The more we rely on God’s strength, the more we weaken the enemy’s power, until he has no choice but to pack up and move on.
