Ruth Bible Study – Chapter 1

He's at work in your life

We’re finally here, besties! Grab your favorite Bibles, snuggle into a cozy corner, and get ready to dig into the book of Ruth!

Before we step into the heartwarming relationship between Ruth, Boaz, and Naomi, let’s acknowledge the journey that brought them there – a path marked by grief, sacrifice, and loss. Chapter one hits us with a gut punch. Naomi’s world crumbles, leaving her in a sea of sorrow. Not exactly the lighthearted start we might have expected, right?

But here’s the beauty: sometimes, the most breathtaking journeys begin in the darkest chapters. And Ruth’s story? It’s a masterpiece waiting to unfold, one brushstroke of faith, courage, and unexpected kindness at a time. In their hardship, both Naomi and Ruth cling to their faith. Ruth’s unwavering commitment and declaration, “Your God will be my God,” showcases a deep trust in God’s sovereignty.

It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the shadows in their story, to wonder if God has forgotten them. But as we dig deeper, we discover a comforting truth: even on the darkest days, God is working behind the scenes, painting a brighter dawn.

Just like Ruth and Naomi, we’ll experience grief. We’ll have trials, and losses and sorrow. But remember, friend, even under the cloud of darkness, God sees you. He knows every tear and every heartbreak, because He walks beside you every step of the way.

Romans 8:28 reminds us, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose” (NIV). Even when we can’t see it, God’s hand guides our steps, orchestrating circumstances, and working towards a purpose far greater than we could imagine. Hold onto this promise and glean strength from His Word.

A little heads-up: Ruth’s story doesn’t end in hardship. It’s just the beginning of a beautiful story written by God. As we embark on this four-week journey, let’s keep our hearts open to the subtle ways God works. If the shadows are looming overhead, remember, the darkest hours are just before dawn. Let’s lean into their story, lock arms, and see what this journey through grief and grace has in store for our souls.

This Week’s Challenge

Look for opportunities to share God’s love this week. If you notice someone experiencing difficulty, even if it’s a stranger. Offer a small act of kindness, such as a smile, a word of encouragement, or a helping hand.

  1. Thank you for this study!

    • You’re welcome. Thanks for being here Karen!

  2. I have recently purchased some older Bible study material (the Full Armor of God) and also the 52 week Proverbs 31 woman , plus the Bible study of the same name. This after reading through the online material about Esther and watching Clarissa on the videos. They have truly encouraged my heart and reignited a desire for studying after quite some time. thank you so much for refreshing this old soul. The Lord is using this material to breath fresh air into those who would partake.

    • Wanda, that’s so awesome!! I love feedback like that. I remember when I was a young girl, my older sister who was married already signed up for an online Bible college. I remember going over there and looking at her booklets and thinking that they were the most amazing thing I had ever seen. I think this was probably in the 70s.

Looking back on it now, I’m pretty sure that’s the thing that inspired me to start writing these. I like them to be simple to read and at the same time interesting. I want them to inspire readers to dig deep into God’s Word and to enjoy the time they spend there. Being that I’m an ADHD girl, I’m also fond of a few photos. They help me keep my interest while I’m reading. Anyway, I’m being far to chatty here. It’s just a comment box, not a novel. ha. So I’ll sign off and chat with you later.

  3. I would like the printable version
