If you’ve ever stood by a woman in labor, you might have guessed that she’d rather be doing anything else than pushing a 6 lb. human through a 4-inch hole. Perhaps you’ve even been there yourself.

The pain is unspeakable, and yet we do it again and again. Why? Because we know that the blessings of motherhood far outweigh the pain.

In Genesis Chapter 32 we come upon an interesting story. The Bible tells us that Jacob wrestled with God all night long. Even after Jacob’s hip was dislocated, he wouldn’t give up. I can’t even imagine the pain, and yet Jacob refused to let go until he received a blessing from God.

What if he would have given up? How many times have you given up? How many times do we miss out on a blessing because we give up too soon?

If we give up on hope, give up on others, give up on our marriage, or simply give up, we’re missing out on the blessings that come to those who finish the race.

Planting Hope

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:2-4, NIV)
