Footwear is designed with a purpose in mind. You don’t wear snow shoes to the beach, and you wouldn’t wear sandals in the snow. The same goes for a soldier preparing for battle. Combat boots are specifically designed to provide protection and stability. They’re strong and sturdy and yet they’re flexible enough for rugged terrain. They’ve got to be made of waterproof leather if you want them to withstand water and rocks.
Likewise, soldiers of faith must be ready for combat with the right pair of shoes. The right pair of shoes in this case is the gospel of peace. The Bible tells us to stand firm with our feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. The apostle Paul is telling us here to stand firm in our faith. Stand firm in the face of affliction. Don’t waiver when you’re tested and tried. Don’t run when you’re standing alone. Don’t give up when the going is tough. Stand firm and fight.
We find an example of this unwavering faith in Genesis 15. The Bible tells us that Abraham believed God against all hope.
Yet he [Abraham] did not waver through unbelief regarding the promise of God, but was strengthened in his faith and gave glory to God. – Romans 4:20

Tilling the Soil
When you’re feeling doubtful, give glory to God. When you’re feeling afraid, give glory to God. When you’re feeling discouraged give glory to God. Don’t let your circumstances dictate the strength of your faith.
Read Genesis 15 to find the story of Abraham’s unwavering faith.
Planting Hope
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace. (Ephesians 6:14-15, NIV)
