Over the holidays I came across this video called “Sofia the Lion Tamer.” I had seen it before, but hadn’t noticed the fierce look in the lion’s eyes quite like I did this time. It’s really amazing to see this young girl so trusting of a piece of glass. I highly doubt that I would. With barely a flinch she faces the enemy head on.

I couldn’t help but be reminded of this scripture:

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: ~ 1 Peter 5:8

I got to thinking about 2013. It’s sure to be full of unexpected blessings, but I also have to wonder what trials I’ll face. Am I equipped to handle them? Or perhaps a better question would be do I trust in the “glass” enough to stand strong when the lion stops to stare me down? Should I come face to face with the enemy will I see the almighty God who stands before me?

As a Christian I know that my walk won’t be easy. I’ve never been promised “easy,” but I do have a promise of joy that is found when I tune out the world and tune into the glory of God!

For thou art my lamp, O Lord: and the Lord will lighten my darkness.
For by thee I have run through a troop: by my God have I leaped over a wall. As for God, his way is perfect; the word of the Lord is tried: he is a buckler to all them that trust in him. For who is God, save the Lord? and who is a rock, save our God?
God is my strength and power: and he maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds’ feet: and setteth me upon my high places. He teacheth my hands to war; so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms.
Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy gentleness hath made me great. Thou hast enlarged my steps under me; so that my feet did not slip. I have pursued mine enemies, and destroyed them; and turned not again until I had consumed them.
And I have consumed them, and wounded them, that they could not arise: yea, they are fallen under my feet. For thou hast girded me with strength to battle: them that rose up against me hast thou subdued under me.
~ 2 Samuel 22:29-40

I pray that you face 2013 with great faith knowing that our joy is found in the strength and power of a mighty warrior–our unfailing God.

You are loved by an almighty God,
