“In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.”

~James 2:17

My husband Geoff”s sock drawer after I organized my laundry basket filled of mixed-matched socks. This is the sock drawer he ..the love of my life, my best friend and father to my children… deserves.
See my post “Comfy and Barefoot in the Kitchen“.

Oh, was that such a pain…going through all of those socks and matching them up. Trudging up and down the stairs. Monotomous. I had better things to do. Demeaning. Honestly…2 hours of my life spent on organizing socks. Really. Come on.

Ladies, don’t we go through this every day of our lives? If it isn’t socks, it’s cooking, going to the grocery store, changing kitty liter, rearing children, ironing, changing diapers…our list is endless. It can get pretty tiring can’t it?

The thing is…as wives and mothers, we can fool ourselves in believing that the world revolves around us. This way of thinking makes us miserable, bitter, not fun to be around, and most importantly disobedient to God.

(been there, done that)

So, in my little sock incidence, faith without action would have looked like this:

” Geoff honey, I LOVE you…but I don’t really want to serve you. I know you need socks and again…I LOVE  you SO much, but I don’t really feel like doing anything for you in that way. I will do ALL the fun stuff with you and tell everyone how much I LOVE you. But, you my dearest, will be going barefoot.

Laughing yet?

We do this to God all the time. We PRAISE His name, sing, go to bible studies, pray, all the FUN stuff. But, when it comes down to it, do we serve Him the way he is calling us to serve Him? Do we carry out our faith in action and boast only in Him? Are we obedient even with the little tasks?
Praying for all of us right now to be obedient to God and to feel an overwhelming need to serve Him. To also realize that our jobs are so very precious and everything we do, we do it for the Lord. I am also praying that we will allow ourselves to feel enjoyment out of serving our families. Let us be willing to accept God’s love and to be able to give it willingly and happily to others.
