I went to Walmart today. It’s a little early to be walking through the garden center, but even so, my Fiddle Tree is desperately needing a transplant. I’ve only had it eight months, and it’s already outgrown its pot. And so, if I want it to grow and flourish, I need to give it more room to grow, and more soil to strengthen its roots.

The thing is, not all plants adapt well to a transplant. They’re kind of like people that way. We tend to find comfort in familiar surroundings and predicable outcomes. It’s when we’re called out of our comfort zone that the real testing begins.

There’s a French Proverb that says, “Bloom where you’re planted.” In other words, grow where God puts you. Just because you’re not where you think you should be, that doesn’t mean you’re not in the right place.

God doesn’t needlessly transplant. He wants us to flourish, and He wants us to grow. He wants us to strengthen our roots. He wants us to lean on His strength.

It’s one thing to say we have faith on a mountain, but will we have the same faith in the valley below?

Sometimes it takes a transplant–a stripping away of all that we have–to strengthen our roots. A new direction to give us direction, a loss in order to gain.

“You may never know that JESUS is all you need, until JESUS is all you have.” – Corrie Ten Boom

Planting Hope

If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast. (Psalm 139:8-10, NIV)
