On Wednesday afternoon we went for a drive. Just me and my son, in the little convertible with the top down and the sun up high in the sky. We just ran an errand which took us down the dirt road a few miles. We didn’t go any place interesting really, and yet we had a great time.

Seems like I always have a good time in the car with my kids. It’s given us a chance to talk and to get to know each other over the years, so when my son asks me to join him for a ride, I seize the opportunity, whether I’m feeling up to it or not.

In much the same way, prayer gives us a little alone time with God. It’s a chance to talk. To get to know our Lord, and to fellowship with Him.

Corrie Ten Boom once asked, “Is prayer your steering wheel or your spare tire?” In other words, is prayer your initial course of action or a last resort?

Prayer gives us an opportunity to fellowship with our Father in Heaven, don’t waste the chance by pushing it aside.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, NIV)
