Opening our Bible to Acts Chapter 9, we read,

The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying.  In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.” (Acts 9:11-12, NIV)

Ananias was well aware of the danger. The Bible tells us that he had heard the reports, he knew what Paul had done to the believers in Jerusalem, and he knew that Saul was in Damascus for the sole purpose of persecuting followers of Christ. Regardless of how he felt and what fear he might have expressed in the moment, Ananias obeyed God and went to see Saul.

Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.” (Acts 9:17, NIV)

What Ananias didn’t know is the same thing that many of us forget when it comes to the challenges we face—that God goes before us to fight the battle, soften hearts, and pave the way.

Like Ananias, we need to be ready to answer God’s call. To step out of our comfort zone when He asks us to do so. To faithfully follow as He leads the way.

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” (Isaiah 6:8, NIV)
