Yesterday I made a decision to step up my game and join in with the Conqueror Challenge. So far, so fun! I’m starting with the Giza Pyramids Virtual Walk, which is 46mi (75km). Along the way they’ll be sending me post cards, and when I finally complete the challenge I get a beautiful finisher’s medal–can’t wait! (I know, 46 miles is a cake walk for some of you, but a girl’s gotta start somewhere.)

I’ve been hearing about the challenge for about a month now, and since the weather is finally nice, I decided I’d start mine today. With the sun on my face and a spring in my step, I started my first challenge of 46 miles.

The Bible has a lot to say about walking, doesn’t it? Encouraging us to walk in the light, while warning us against walking in darkness. Metaphorically speaking, it’s telling us to stay on the path that’s been laid out before us, and like the challenge I embarked on today there’s a prize to be won at the end. Not just any prize–a crown that far exceeds any crown on this earth!

I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:14, NIV)

So how do we do that? What does “walking” imply? Action.

In Charles Spurgeon’s commentary on Colossians 2:6, he writes,

Walking implies action. Our Christian life is not to be confined to our closet; our belief must be revealed in our practice. If a man walks in Christ, then he must act as Christ would act; since Christ is in him—his hope, his love, his joy, his life—he is the reflection of the image of Jesus; and men will say of that man, “He is like his Master; he lives like Jesus Christ.”

This doesn’t mean that we’re perfect–we all make mistakes. It simply means that we’re progressing toward the mark set before us as we’re living out the truth we’ve received. It means that every choice we make and every step we take toward that goal is bringing us closer to the likeness of Christ.
