There’s a sound in the air as our waitress makes her way to the patio from the kitchen and back yet again. The gentle rhythm of the screen door is a familiar tune reminiscent of days gone by. I love the feeling of home, and Hecla Island brings me back there every time.
The first year we went to Hecla, my sister took us for a drive. “I want to show you something,” She said.
We parked our car over on the West side of the island, slipped through one of the walking trails, and stepped onto an empty beach, just in time to watch the setting sun splashing it’s vibrant hues across the sky.
I love sunsets, and yet they’re always short-lived. But here’s the thing, we wouldn’t know the beauty of a sunset if it wasn’t for the dark. We wouldn’t know the morning sun if it wasn’t for the night.
So it is with gratitude. We don’t know what we have until we suffer loss. We don’t know how good we have it until we simply don’t.
And so friends, let’s be thankful for the day and for the night. Thankful for the dark days that remind us we have light. Thankful for the weeds and thankful for the flower. Thankful for the trials that remind us of His power.

Read Psalm 30 where you see the beauty of God’s faithfulness, His saving grace, and His merciful heart.
For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime; weeping may stay for the night, but rejoicing comes in the morning. (Psalm 30:5, NIV)

Darlene Schacht and her husband Michael live in Manitoba Canada where the summers are beautiful and the winters are cold. Together they’ve come to learn that relationships aren’t always easy, but that marriage, the way God intended it to be, is a treasure worth fighting for.
She began her publishing journey about twelve years ago when she pioneered one of the first online magazines for Christian women, known at the time as “Christian Women Online Magazine.” After three years, Darlene left CWO to blog as a solo author at Time-Warp Wife Ministries.
It was also during this transition that she worked alongside actress Candace Cameron Bure to write the NYT Best-Selling book, Reshaping it All: Motivation for Spiritual and Physical Fitness.
