I’ve known Terri for most of my life, but it’s only been in the past few years that I’ve really gotten to know her. Our families were friends, but not so much her and I until a few years ago. Now she’s my person. I know that I can call her any time of the day and she’ll be there for me. I’m not kidding when I say any time of the day either. Some days we chat at 3:30 am.
We travel together, we laugh together, and we play games together, but what I love most about Terri is the way she lifts me up when I’m feeling down.
As I got to thinking about her today, I was reminded of a story in Mark chapter 2. It talks about how Jesus was preaching in Capernaum when a large crowd gathered to hear Him. The crowd was so large that day that even the door was impassible. And so we read how four men carried their paralyzed friend through the crowd, dug a hole in the roof, and lowered Him down to see Jesus.
There are a few things that we could and should learn from these men. The first is that the anointed move forward regardless of what it might cost. The best things rarely come easy. They take up our time, they call us to sacrifice, and they’re inconvenient at times. But as we can see in this scripture, their lives were changed because they pressed on.
Finally, we see the importance of not only lifting up others but having friends who are lifting us too. We need people in our lives who believe in us, who will pray for us, encourage us, and are willing to go the extra mile to lift us up when we’re feeling down.

Also, if you don’t have people in your life to encourage and lift you up, ask God to bring someone to you. I have been there a few times in my life, and He’s always answered that prayer.
