Note: I’ll be taking about six weeks off to work on a book and enjoy a bit of the summer. I’ll see you when I get back. Enjoy the weather.

If you were to visit our area, of the country you might find yourself asking, what are those blue shelters out in the field? And why are there is so many of them? I was asking myself the same question, until I recently discovered that these blue plastic domes are shelters for cutting bees. Apparently, one of the best pollinators of alfalfa is the cutting bee. And so, it’s in the best interest of farmers to protect these bees in the best way they know how. As such, our prairies are scattered with sturdy plastic blue tents.

They’re a great solution for housing bees, what they’re not so good for however, is standing up to the wind, and last week’s storm definitely proved that. With winds gusting to 50 miles/hour these enormous plastic shelters were on the move and one was headed straight for our house. Had it not been for the construction workers out back who found a way to anchor it down, it might have cracked a window or two.

As I got to thinking about that today, I was reminded how important it is to be grounded in faith. The Bible warns us about the winds of doctrine–false teachers who tickle our ears and deceitfully draw us away from the truth. Unfortunately, it happens a lot more than we realize.

Maybe we can stand a little wind, but what happens when we’re standing against the mighty winds of deceit? A message so close to the truth, yet laced with the poison of sin? Will we be able to stand up for the truth, or will we be tossed back and forth?

In Ephesians 6:13, Paul tells us to stand firm by preparing ourselves. “Therefore, put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”

Study the Bible so you can rightly divide. Know what you know, and why you know it. Absorb yourself in God’s Word. Walk in His truth. Always go back to the source to confirm what you learn.
