After living in this house for two years, we’ve decided to do a little upgrade to our back yard, and so, we sat down with a landscaper this week and drew out a plan.

The one thing we both wanted for sure was a fire pit area. A patio big enough to gather with friends around a fire at night.

The second thing we wanted was a little privacy, and so we’re planting a row of lilac bushes along the back end of the property.

There’s nothing quite like the scent of lilacs on a warm summer day, is there? They’re definitely my favorite flower, and for some reason, the smell makes me happy.

The Bible tells us, We are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. (1 Corinthians 2:15, NIV)

As I read that verse, I can help but think that our pleasing aroma makes God happy too. And how do we become that aroma that is pleasing to God? By following God’s example and walking in the way of love.

Follow God’s example, therefore, as dearly loved children and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. (Ephesians 5:1-2, NIV)
