Next to my birthday and Christmas, this week is my favorite week of the year. My favorite day to be exact. The day we spring ahead and turn the clocks forward an hour. I love sunlight. More than you could ever imagine. I love long summer days when the sun goes down at 10pm. I love the warmth of the sun on my face in the mid afternoon. There’s something about walking–about living in the light that’s invigorating. It’s life to my bones, and a breath of fresh air to my soul.

There are so many benefits to sunlight. It reduces stress and lightens the mood. It improves your mental health and helps you sleep. Like a cozy blanket on a cold winter day, sunlight brings comfort and warmth.

As I got to thinking about that today, I was reminded of Psalm 36:9 which says, “For with you is the fountain of life; in your light we see light.”

All happiness comes from the God, all peace comes from Him, “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.” (James 1:17, NIV)

To seek joy apart from the light is a never ending search. But to those who have found the light and walk in that light, its incredible power and strength.

What is this light exactly? First and foremost it’s the righteousness of God. It’s His goodness, His grace, and His love. A light that shines in the darkness and lifts up the soul. Hope that transcends the darkest of days. A lantern that’s guiding our steps.

And what are we as children of light? A reflection of His righteousness and love. Walking, not perfectly, but progressively, as we’re learning and growing in grace.
