Drawn from my archives

I’ve come to learn over time that we don’t need a perfect life to live in abundance. The things that we’re most thankful for can’t be bought in a store or cashed in at the bank. The best gifts are the ones knit together in love–the family God gives us, our friends, and of course God Himself.

I’m reminded of growing up in a family of 8. With a grade three education, my dad didn’t make all that much money. Yet somehow they made enough to feed us and clothe us and take care of our needs.

I was too young to remember, but I’ve heard stories about the cardboard door with the hinges that Dad made to give Mom her privacy. The pot handle he fixed with a wooden spool from her sewing box. And the time a family in need camped out on our kitchen floor for a month.

We didn’t have a lot, but we had each other. We had laughter, we had love, we had couch snuggles and stories around the table… Most importantly we had a God working in us and through us to make our small house a home.

It is not how much we havebut how much we enjoy, that makes happiness. — Charles Spurgeon

Tilling the Soil

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. (James 1:17, NIV)
