My husband likes to take things slow. He likes to think things through and give it time. He doesn’t proceed until every detail is planned.
I’m the opposite. When I get an idea I jump on it–today. I don’t need weeks to get my ducks in order, I need hours. I want things done well, but I also want them done quickly. I don’t see the point in waiting just for the sake of waiting when I can proceed on what needs to get done.
And so we balance each other out. He slows me down while I give him a push, and somehow we tend to meet in the middle.
As a believer I’m hungry to grow, so I’m trying my best to wait on the Lord. To trust in His plan through uncertain times. To patiently wait for Him to open a door.
Charles Spurgeon once said, “If the Lord Jehovah makes us wait, let us do so with our whole hearts; for blessed are all they that wait for Him. He is worth waiting for. The waiting itself is beneficial to us: it tries faith, exercises patience, trains submission, and endears the blessing when it comes. The Lord’s people have always been a waiting people.”
Waiting on God is more than just sitting around watching the clock. It’s an invitation to believe in His wisdom and to trust in His plan, even and especially when we’re left in the dark.
Throughout scripture we see people waiting on God as Noah waited for rain, Hannah patiently waited for a child of her own, Moses waited 40 years before he led the children out of Egypt and another 40 in the desert of testing. Joseph waited in prison until God set Him free.
It’s easy to trust someone when they do things our way, but to trust someone blindly takes faith–faith in His plan, faith in His timing, and faith in His wisdom and power.
I can’t think of a better way to strengthen our faith than by trusting in God. And so, my friend, if the Lord makes us wait–if He leads us through a time of testing and trial, if He brings us down to our knees before He lifts us back up, and if He closes three doors before He opens another, let’s lean on His wisdom and trust in His plan.
