CONCLUDING THOUGHTS ON CHAPTER 7 – The Sword of the Spirit
Nothing holds the power to cut through a lie more than the sword of the Spirit. One simple lie can drag you down faster than you ever imagined possible. Remember, it only took one lie to deceive Eve—a half-truth so twisted, it almost seemed true.
Satan is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. In other words, he masquerades as an angel of light. If you think he’s harmless, you’re wrong. He seeks to destroy God’s people and extinguish the light of His church.
How many people have dimmed their light because of doubt? How many have given up on spreading the good news due to fear? How many have stopped going to church due to division and strife? How many are believing his lies because they’re not spending time in God’s Word?
Don’t you dare dim your light. Pick up your sword and fight!
Matthew Henry writes, “The combat is not against human enemies, nor against our own corrupt nature only; we have to do with an enemy who has a thousand ways of beguiling unstable souls.”
I know what a lot of you are thinking right now. “The Bible is hard to understand. How can I use this sword effectively when I can barely hold it myself?”
Here’s the thing. It’s not your sword, and it’s not your battle. It’s the sword of the Spirit, and by His power and might, we’re able to wield it. Throughout scripture, we see God using the weak to shame the strong and the foolish to confound the wise.
We see that Samson was strong in his weakness—powerful yet frail. He saw God in his blindness because he had faith. As long as Samson was strong, he was weak. So easily deceived by the women around him, he fell time and again. But when he finally came to that place of faith and reliance on God, he was mighty and strong, both inside and out.
But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty. (1 Corinthians 1:27, KJV)
God’s Word has the power to stand on its own; all you need to do is be willing to use it. Willing to study it. Willing to gain a deeper understanding of God’s will for your life. Willing to fight for your faith.
And so, as we close the book on this study, I encourage you: spend time in God’s Word every day. It’s the most practical way you can ‘pick up your sword.’ Now, get back in the fight!
