ARMOR OF GOD BIBLE STUDY

Are You Ready to Stand Your Ground?

In Ephesians 6, the Apostle Paul doesn’t merely suggest, but equips us with the full armor of God. From the Belt of Truth to the Sword of the Spirit, each piece is crucial, acting as our spiritual defense against the unseen enemy. You know those arguments with your spouse, or the distance that’s crept into family relationships? What about the lingering doubts about your faith, or the temptations that pull you away from God’s path? The true adversary in all these struggles is not flesh and blood, but Satan and his fallen angels.

The call to put on the full armor of God isn’t just a nice metaphor; it’s essential for a victorious life in Christ. It equips us to stand firm, no matter what life throws our way. This 7-part study invites you on a transformative journey to deepen your relationship with God while fortifying your spiritual defenses.

Each chapter offers you Scripture-based encouragement, soul-searching questions to journal, and eye-opening insights into the armor of God. Get ready to become not just a hearer of the Word, but a doer — prepared, protected, and empowered for spiritual battle.

THE ENEMY

Ephesians 6:11-12 (NIV) gives us a powerful directive: “Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” This Scripture isn’t just ink on paper; it’s a lifeline. It’s a sacred whisper reminding us that we were never meant to battle alone.

THE ENEMY
Part 2

On the morning they found Jesus’ tomb empty, Peter was one of the two who ran to see it. He passionately vowed to stand by Jesus come what may—yet he’s also the one who denied Jesus three times.

Peter’s experience taught him valuable lessons, and they came the hard way. He learned how cunning Satan can be, how he operates subtly yet strikes swiftly.

BELT OF TRUTH
Part 1

In the realm of spiritual warfare, integrity isn’t optional—it’s foundational. Just as a belt holds the armor in place, your integrity fortifies your footing in Christ. You may have heard the phrase “gird your loins” and wondered what that means. To gird one’s loins means to prepare oneself for action. In biblical times, men would tuck their long robes into their belts to move freely and swiftly. Similarly, the belt of truth enables us to move in freedom—freedom from deceit, from half-truths, and from the shackles that bind us when we are not honest with ourselves or with others.

BELT OF TRUTH
PART 2

Living a life of truth isn’t swayed by your external circumstances but is instead an outward expression of your inner convictions. Consider this: clean water will flow from a tap whether the house is neat or in disarray. If the water is contaminated, the issue needs to be fixed at the source. In the same way, if we’re not truthful, we have to examine our hearts and allow conviction to guide us back to integrity.

BREASTPLATE OF…
PART 1

As we continue on our journey through the armor of God, we come to a piece that feels incredibly close to home—the breastplate of righteousness. Just as a physical breastplate protects vital organs, especially the heart, our spiritual breastplate shields what’s most important to our spiritual life: our hearts.

BREASTPLATE OF…
PART 2

When I read about David, the shepherd boy who grew into a king, I’m reminded of what it means to live righteously. David wasn’t perfect, but one thing is certain: he had a heart after God’s own heart. He’s a vivid illustration of someone who wore a spiritual “breastplate of righteousness,” protecting his inner core from the challenges and moral compromises that could easily derail him.

FEET SHOD WITH THE
GOSPEL OF PEACE

Adversity has a way of revealing the foundation on which we stand. When we face life’s storms, our footing is tested. It’s akin to saying, ‘A tree deeply anchored in soil has no fear of the wind.’ In the same way, when the winds of adversity blow through our lives, we have two options: we can either be swept off our feet or stand unwavering, anchored in the eternal truth of the Gospel.

FEET SHOD WITH THE
GOSPEL OF PEACE

In Ephesians 6:15, Paul urges us to equip our feet with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. What does this mean for us today? It means being prepared, fortified in spirit and soul, because we’ll inevitably face spiritual battles.Whether you’re navigating a challenging marriage, tough work situations, or wrestling with temptation, remember this: our true battle is spiritual, not fleshly.

SHIELD OF FAITH
Part 1

This week, we’re venturing into a crucial aspect of our spiritual armor: the Shield of Faith. The shield in ancient times was a formidable piece of a soldier’s armor, often made of wood or metal, designed to block and deflect incoming attacks. In our spiritual lives, the Shield of Faith serves a similar purpose—it’s our God-given defense against the schemes of the enemy. This shield is designed to protect us from the various traps, temptations, and attacks that Satan, the enemy, might use to harm or derail us spiritually.

SHIELD OF FAITH
PART 2

We talked about dissatisfaction earlier in this chapter, and how Satan will use it. Satisfaction comes from the root word “satisfy,” which means to fulfill or come to completion. But here’s the thing: nothing in this world will ever satisfy us the way that Jesus will. It might occupy us for a season, but we all know full well that nothing lasts. Everything rots, everything breaks down, and everything turns to dust, and so we’re always left wanting more.

HELMET OF SALVATION
PART 1

As we continue through our exploration of the Armor of God, this week brings us to the Helmet of Salvation. So, what is it? Think of it this way: In a physical battle, a helmet safeguards the head, the seat of the intellect and thoughts. In our spiritual lives, the Helmet of Salvation performs a similar role—it protects our minds and thoughts, anchoring us in the hope we have in Jesus Christ.

HELMET OF SALVATION
PART 2

Helmets are designed to protect our heads—the very place where our thoughts take root. It’s not just about what enters our mind but also what stays there that counts. Nearly every thought that enters our mind comes from what we hear or see. When those areas are carefully guarded, we’re less likely to fall into sin. So, we must keep our eyes and our ears on the Lord, follow His voice, obey His commands, and patiently wait for Him.

SWORD OF THE SPIRIT
Part 1

As we reach the conclusion of our journey through the Armor of God, we arrive at an essential component—The Sword of the Spirit, which is the Word of God. Unlike the other pieces of the armor, the sword isn’t just for defense; it’s for offense. It equips us not only to guard ourselves but also to push back against the deceptions and temptations that come our way.

SWORD OF THE SPIRIT
Part 2

Nothing holds the power to cut through a lie more than the sword of the Spirit. One simple lie can drag you down faster than you ever imagined possible. Remember, it only took one lie to deceive Eve—a half-truth so twisted, it almost seemed true. Satan is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. In other words, he masquerades as an angel of light. If you think he’s harmless, you’re wrong. He seeks to destroy God’s people and extinguish the light of His church.
