To the boy who will marry my daughter,
I prayed for you today as I do every day. I wondered what marvelous things God has in store for your life. I wondered what you might look like, and who you might be. I wondered when and how our paths may cross one another.
As my own children have grown in my womb, so you continue to grow in my heart.
I pray that you are cared for and loved by those who are taking the time to teach you what it means to be a young man. I ask that God grants them with wisdom and strength as they lead by example.
My hope is that you are seeking God’s will in your life, for I know that a man who loves God with all of his heart will love my daughter with all of his strength.
Stand strong in the face of temptation. Guard your mind from the lure of seduction. We live in a world that offers a front seat to sexual sin. Blurring the lines between lust and love, it deceives the heart. I stand in the gap praying that God will sustain you, and give you strength until the day you have taken your bride.
Gentleness is a sign of great strength–humility a symbol of courage and stability, don’t be deceived by those who deem them as weak.
As fresh fallen snow, so is the future before you. A canvas soon to be painted by footsteps. Choose wisely. Have fun. Work hard. Don’t sweat the big stuff. Trust God with your future and allow its unfolding in His perfect time.
I pray that you hunger for the Word of God, for great leaders are those who are led by wisdom and truth.
When you experience days that bring you down to your knees, rejoice. Be exceedingly glad. Our Father is shaping and molding you into the man He designed you to be.
While you’re doing your part, I’m doing mine.
I’m raising a daughter who understands the value of purity, patience, and truth.
I’m training a girl to be a woman of virtue and strength.
I’m teaching her that inner beauty is of great value, and that outer beauty doesn’t have to conform.
We’re showing her what a committed relationship looks like as we lead by example.
And wouldn’t you know it… she’s also praying for you.
May God keep you safe in His arms as you’re growing in grace.
You are loved by an almighty God,
Darlene Schacht

This is wonderful! A reflection of my thoughts about my own daughters! Thank you for sharing this with us.
Beautiful! As a mother to three daughters that is absolutely perfect. Could not be better said.
Thank you for sharing your heart and gift of writing.
Thank you for your encouragement, Kim. I also want to write one to my daughter-in-law.
I love this Darlene. Reading this is such a beautiful way of letting God take away the twinges of worry, that the world will corrupt the minds and bodies of the men and women that will marry our children one day. I’m letting it go to God in prayer, and have hope that their parents are also praying the same for our children. Thanks!!
Thank you Lorelie. It’s comforting to know that there are still young men and women out there who are fighting the good fight!
This is so beautiful. I want to pray this for my sons.
Thank you for sharing.
What a beautiful letter! I feel like crying I’m so touched? Now I’m more eager than ever to read your books, and I want to that you for all that you do to help marriages. Bless you!
Thank you, Tracy. I think you would enjoy Messy Beautiful Love. I share a bit more of my testimony in that book.
i am a 15 year old girl and thank you for this article, for me this isnt what i hope my daughters will seek or the kind of man i hope my future daughters will marry but its an outline of all my prayers for my future husband and what i should be doing whilst waiting
Beautiful comment Praise. Thank you!
What if your daughter preferes to live with a woman instead? Or one of your sons with another man? Did this thought ever occur to you?
She doesn’t. She’s seventeen and clearly wants to marry a man.
TULLEBOELLE:
well that’s a dumb question.. We as true Christians and followers of Christ all know that homosexuality is a sin, we are not to conform to the world. We must live in Holyness thru the power of the Holy Spirit.. I have 3 daughters, and I can assure you they will marry MEN.. For its how God ordained it, not I. So if we teach our children the word of God, they will not depart from it.. And that’s a promise ?
Be blessed
Thank you for this! I am a mom of three boys ages 10-15. I will be reading this to them today! We also pray regularly for our future daughter-in-laws!
It’s great encouragement for growing boys. I want to write one for the girls too.
Darlene-
This is a beautiful letter. Thank you so much for writing it. I would love to see your letter to the girl who marries your son.
Me too! I’d like to write it soon. Probably next week.
I look forward to it. Thanks.
This is a beautiful and touching tribute, Darlene, both for your future son-in-law and for your daughter.
I have two boys and I pray for their future wives as well as teach them to do the same. It is a very important aspect of their future marriages.
Thanks for sharing this. Blessings to you and yours.
Thank you Heather. Yeah, I think it’s good encouragement for boys and girls!
This is incredible! I love it so much! I eagerly anticipate reading your letter to your future daughter-in-law.
You inspire me to get on it. 😀
Thank you for sharing this! I just read your post to my daughter. Though I use to pray for my daughter’s future husband and family, I never told her about this. We both felt so close to each other as we read your letter. Thanks and God bless yor life.
Beautiful Nuria. I love it!
I want to send my daughter boyfriend the letter above my daughter future husbsnd by text. How can I?
I would copy and past the text. Or you could copy the link and paste it in a text. Hope that helps.
I’m glad my husband and I are not the only ones who have praying for their child’s future spouse since birth. We are seeing glimpses of God’s sovereign handling of that prayer now twenty years since the first prayer left our lips. He is ever faithful. Thanks for sharing this.
Oh, wow….That was an amazing letter! Brought me to tears. Thanks for sharing!
I prayed for my future husband for years. Then I prayed for the children we would someday have and now, I’m praying both for my son and for his future wife, so many things to be considered. In the meantime, I feel like I should actually be praying for my son’s future mother-in-law. After all, she’s the one who will be molding his wife. 🙂
I loved your letter and hope to read the one to your son’s future wife soon 😉
Thanks for first writing, and then sharing this wonderful letter. It just speaks out what most of us ( Mothers) pray for concerning our future sons- in- law. I could not resist the urge to share it on my own Facebook wall.
God bless you.
Awesome. Thanks for sharing!
I will be printing this off, and hanging it in my son’s room. He is only four and a half, but I believe we can start talking to him about respect and love now. He says he wants to be a husband and dad someday, so I think he understands parts of this because of what he sees with his dad and I. As he grows up, he can read this and be reminded. Thank you.
Beautiful idea.
Thank You so much…
I’m a 20 year old college student. My entire life, I have lived by a creed to be the best man of God I could ever be for my future wife. I keep her in mind in every single action I do, hoping to find a true woman of God. But many times realizing this world has consumed everyone in its own way. I have kept my ideals very high in the woman I want to pursue. Continually hoping and praying Jesus has the perfect girl out there for me. I pray for my future wife with such desperation that she be strong in Christ before me. Reading your article made me tear up, it gave me hope. That there may be someone out there who holds my values to put Christ before everything. Thank you Darlene, I pray your daughters find a man who will lead them directly to Christ through hardship and good times.
I love your comment Jonah. Keep praying and fighting the good fight.
Some daughters are not grown in our own wombs. My daughters are adopted. I would change the wording in the article to address all daughters, including those who were not grown in ones own womb.
Good thought @Stacie.
