MY CLOSING THOUGHTS ON Ruth Chapter 3

This week in our video, Karissa pointed something out that I hadn’t considered all that much—the courage Ruth displayed when she went to the threshing floor. I know that I’ve never had that much courage. I was so shy when I met my husband, that even accepting a ride home from church was way out of my comfort zone. If I was the one in her shoes, I might have taken a different approach, a comfortable one, like waiting for him to make the first move. But Ruth wasn’t like that, she faithfully followed the wisdom imparted to her by Naomi and went to meet him that night.

Ruth’s courage is a reminder to us that faith can feel daunting at times, and yet it’s deeply rewarding. It teaches us that following God’s lead—through the counsel of those He inspires—may call us to step out of our comfort zones. Naomi’s advice was infused with faith in God’s provision for them, and it’s no doubt that her guidance came from the Lord. While Ruth trusted Naomi’s wisdom, by extension she was trusting in the care and guidance of God.

What might that look like in our lives today? A reliance on the wisdom of God, and an adherence to His Word.

The Bible tells us, “For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.” (2 Peter 1:21, NIV)

The voice of God is revealed to us in Scripture. Sometimes it’s a voice of comfort, and other days it calls us to take action in uncomfortable ways. At times it goes beyond discomfort, challenging us to confront our deepest fears. Yet, it is precisely in these moments of courage that we’re being strengthened by faith.

The Bible is filled with stories where God’s people are called to step out in faith. Abraham left his homeland without knowing his destination, Moses confronted Pharaoh, and Peter stepped out of the boat onto the water. Each act of obedience was a step out of their comfort zones, propelled by faith in God’s word and promises.

Ruth’s journey to the threshing floor symbolizes a pivotal act of faith that not only changed the course of her life but also played a crucial role in the lineage of King David and, ultimately, Jesus Christ. As we read her story along with other stories like those of Esther and Rahab, we see faithful women willing to take a bold step of faith. It’s a beautiful testament to the power of God working through faithful courage, whether we’re fearful or not. As we close our chapter this week, let’s take a page from their lives. A reminder to follow the wisdom of God, and embrace that same faithful courage wherever it leads.
